EVERETT and EVELYN McKINNEY

. . . in Malaysia

A Sikh taxi driver took us to several places of worship, including ...

a mosque where a guide covered Evelyn's head and showed us around while we shared mutually,

the temple of the huge reclining Buddha,

the snake temple where dozens of "holy" snakes are coiled around branches, and temples where

people were being blessed by a monk). "Sikh" means "learner" – he believes he can learn from every religion and encouraged us to meditate. We told him we do, but we do not empty our minds and wait for something to fill them – we meditate on God and His Word for encouragement and instruction. He knows something of Christianity and was happy for us to pray for him. He promised to try "our" kind of meditation!

In one church we met a group of medical students who will soon go to Russia to continue their studies—we were able to give them information about international churches. It is exciting to know that they will not only be studying, but also sharing their faith with many young Russians.

We ministered in a church that we had connected with a US church some years ago. The US church sent many boxes of used Christian Education materials. The pastor and wife have spent much time organizing the material. They are now a resource center for other churches who need materials.

We taught in a ministry training center, where a number of the students are business people who want to be equipped to share Jesus in their work places.

Of course, food is important in Asia. Everett loved the "appointment" to eat durian fruit (too strong smelling for many Americans), while Evelyn enjoyed the sweet/tart mangosteens.

. . . in Phillipines

When the provincial bus we were on came to a halt in a small town, we saw a crowd of people and finally learned that a bus just ahead of us had been robbed and that a young girl had been killed, then the robber killed by police. That was tragic, but praise God, we were on the right bus at that moment, and spared to continue ministry.

Students in the Asia Pacific Theological Seminary Master's level extensions in 2 locations testified that they had God-Appointments in the classes, as did ...

pastors who attended the seminar on Preparation for a Truly Pentecostal Ministry in Manila.

Funds were given to us by a Baptist church in Malaysia to help poor people. We passed these on to a pioneer pastor in her mid-fifties on the island of Leyte where the poverty is overwhelming. She has spent much of her life there, living by faith. Three years ago a desperate widowed mother left three children with her and has not been seen since! The funds will enable her to repair a

pedicab (bicycle with sidecar) that she was using to raise funds to help feed children in two neighborhoods. What a blessing!

. . . in Sri Lanka

Exciting surprises awaited us at the ...

Bible college in Sri Lanka. Among our students were. . .

a former Buddhist monk to whom Jesus revealed Himself in the temple and

two brothers from Germany whose family came to help with tsunami relief. They all found the Lord and have stayed on in Sri Lanka. The brothers are fervent men of faith and an inspiration to all.

We also met with two former students who have a great vision to help AGBC and the Sri Lanka General Council begin a Sri Lankan missions program. They will teach practical courses in line with the cultures of this and other nearby countries. Example: it is not wise to go and live in a community without working for your living as people immediately suspect that you are only there to convert them. So tent-making possibilities will be taught and encouraged.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

  1. Anointing and direction for the medical students going to Russia from Malaysia
  2. Provision for pioneer pastors in poverty areas of Philippines
  3. Protection for pastors in Sri Lanka, which is in turmoil from civil war
  4. Steadfastness in areas of intense persecution in Sri Lanka
  5. Provision for majority of Sri Lankan population – prices have doubled and tripled in a few months triggered by high cost of oil (gas is $5-6 a gallon in most of Asia)
  6. Guidance for our children and grandchildren
  7. Anointing and protection as we begin four months of deputation
