Philippines
As usual, we taught at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary January through March. We each taught two courses. This is a most beautiful campus. We get lots of exercise climbing the steep hills several times a day. It is wonderful to see several of our former students teaching for APTS, one is now President of the school, and a couple are part of the Board of Directors!
We again taught at Bethel Bible College in Manila, where our Filipino "daughter" Nelly is on faculty. Orphaned at a tender age, she grew up in our home from the age of 10. It was also a joy to have our son Steve, who is a pastor in Manila, join us to lead worship during the spiritual emphasis time in chapel. Students from Bible Institute for the Deaf also joined. Their director was one of our first colleagues in Cebu 42 years ago.
Malaysia
We spent a few weeks ministering in churches in this nation where missionaries are not allowed to reside. Several churches and individuals either support our ministry monthly or sow significantly into it when we can come and minister. Wonderful generosity, though they are often in great need themselves. God blesses them for their vision! One church celebrated Everett's birthday! Malaysians love to share their good food. Everett really enjoys the durian fruit, which some say tastes like heaven and smells like h---!
Romania
Eastern European Bible College in Oradea and Romania Christian Training School are schools we teach in almost every year. They are training missionaries to reach the unreached in difficult places like Turkey, Macedonia, Afghanistan, and northern India. We have seldom seen young people who pray like these do. And they are seeing great results in their ministries even now! Several former students gathered for an evening of fellowship with us. So exciting to hear their stories of how God has led and provided.
We met a Romanian couple who miraculously escaped from Romania in the 1980s, when it was under the terrible Communist dictator, Caucescu. The pregnant wife swam to the boat on which the husband was a seaman, was hoisted aboard (almost caught by police patrolling the sea), and hid until the ship got to Italy where they walked off together with only the clothes on their backs. Eventually they got to America, had a successful business, and now have returned to minister to their own people.
Fiji
Evelyn taught a Master's level extension course for Asia Pacific Theological Seminary at South Pacific Bible College, where the campus has a gorgeous view of the sea. Everett ministered in churches, encouraging them to reach their God-given potential. One church is pastored by our former student, who is also a General council officer.
