PHILIPPINES: - We taught at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary high in the northern mountains in Baguio. We team-taught Signs and Wonders in Missions—a course in which we seek to motivate students to be prepared to minister to needs of people through God's supernatural power. Our emphasis is that Jesus did what He saw the Father doing (John 5:19), and He told the disciples: “I and the Father are One….Without Me, you can do nothing.” We must have a close relationship and fellowship with the Father too.
Everett also taught World Missions Perspectives, stressing the need to reach those yet unreached, and Evelyn taught Foundations of Christian Education, stressing the need to teach the Word as the Truth and Reality it really is. We had students from about 10 countries in our classes.
ROMANIA: - Everett again taught the graduating class of Eastern European Bible College in Oradea. They are going out as missionaries and church planters in hard places and must be filled with the Holy Spirit and able to minister in power. Evelyn taught the first-year class Christian Education of Children. If we reach the children and help them to become firmly established in their faith, we will keep them when they reach youth.
It was a delight to participate in a national conference of 2200 youth, led by a former student whose passion is to reach and disciple the youth of Romania and challenge them to be involved in reaching others. Over 100 committed themselves to be available for missions.
Have you ever seen a real stork's nest—huge and built high on a light pole?
RUSSIA: - We taught extensions of Moscow Theological Institute in eastern Russia. Russia covers 11 of the world's 24 time zones. Many locations are needed because of the vastness of Russia. The first place was Vladivostok. Students came from towns many miles away to attend the courses. They slept on pews in classrooms of the church where classes were held. We got to know them pretty well, as we had lunch and dinner with them each day, with classes both morning and afternoon. One pastor was saved out of the drug culture four years ago and has a passion to reach others. What a delight to minister in his church and to hear wonderful stories of deliverance!
The second venue was Yuzhno-Sakhalin, on an island off the east coast of Russia. Another very interesting group, with students from all over the island. The roads are pretty bad, so it takes them many hours to drive. We challenged the students to reach out to every people group with the message of God's love. They are eager to do this, giving when they have great needs themselves.
WEDDING BELLS! - We made a quick trip to the USA to attend our son Doug's wedding. He has been a single dad for 16 years. We are so delighted to welcome Jeanine as our daughter-in-law. She is a wonderful Christian lady. Doug is blessed! We haven't seen such a smile for a long time. His brother Steve officiated—very touching!
FIJI: - Everett taught a Master's level extension for Asia Pacific Theological Seminary. Again he taught World Missions Perspectives. Several students wrote in their responses that they had never heard missions taught so strongly as every Christian's personal responsibility. Several expressed their willingness to go as missionaries or to strongly support missions as they plant and lead churches in Fiji and other island countries. Fiji is getting a greater vision for sending missionaries.
We also enjoyed teaching South Pacific Bible College students and ministering in the chapel, as well as in churches. Students come from a number of island countries, so there is wonderful input and sharing of insights and experiences.
